China decides to impose additional tariffs on 16 bln USD of U.S. imports

China has decided to impose additional tariffs on imported products from the United States worth about 16 billion U.S. dollars, according to an official statement released Wednesday.

据8月8日公布的一份官方声明，中国已决定对原产于美国约160亿美元进口商品加征关税。

Approved by the State Council, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council has decided to impose additional duties of 25 percent on the 16-billion-dollar U.S. products after making proper adjustments to the second part of a list of the products subject to the tariffs. The additional duties will take effect at 12:01 on Aug. 23, 2018.

经国务院批准，国务院关税税则委员会决定在适当调整对美加征关税商品清单二的商品后，对160亿美元的美国商品加征25%的关税，自2018年8月23日12时01分起实施。

Commenting on the decision, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce said that it is totally unreasonable for the United States to put domestic laws above international laws time and time again.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 hit Indonesia’s Lombok island on Thursday, less than a week after a 6.9-magnitude tremor that is believed to have killed more than 300 people.
