北斗“收官之星”发射

China launched the last satellite of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) on Tuesday, marking the completion of the deployment of its own global navigation system.

The satellite, the 55th in the family of BeiDou, was launched at 9:43 a.m. (Beijing Time) and sent into the preset orbit by a Long March-3B carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

这是第55颗北斗卫星。北京时间23日上午9时43分，长征三号乙运载火箭在四川西昌卫星发射中心将其送入预定轨道。

The mission, the 336th by the Long March rocket series, was a "complete success," the launch center said.

BDS is one of four global navigation satellite systems in the world. The other three global navigation systems are GPS of the United States, Galileo of the European Union, and GLONASS of Russia.

北斗系统是全球四大定位系统之一，其它三个分别是美国的全球定位系统、欧盟的伽利略卫星导航系统和俄罗斯的格洛纳斯卫星导航系统。

Chinese netizens urged local authorities to find out the truth and called for the punishment of those who violated the fairness of college entrance examinations.

The local government in Jining has established an investigation group and contacted Gou Jing to deal with the case. The results of the survey will be released to the public in a timely manner, as it announced on its public Sina Weibo account on Wednesday.

Gou Jing has revealed that she was replaced by her head teacher's daughter for a college in Beijing in 1997. She attended the college entrance examination in 1998 but failed again in enrolling at a university, even though her score was generally good.

boat sank in Xishuangbanna

One person was killed and six went missing after a boat sank in Xishuangbanna in southwest China's Yunnan Province, local authorities said Friday.

据云南省官方26日通报，云南西双版纳沉船事故已造成1人死亡，6人失踪。

The boat carrying 24 people capsized at the confluence of Lancang and Nanban rivers at around 4 a.m. Thursday. A total of 17 people have been rescued, and a dead body was found downstream in Myanmar waters, according to the emergency rescue headquarters.

25日清晨4时，一艘载有24人的船舶在澜沧江与南班河交汇处发生沉船事故。据应急处置指挥部通报，目前已有17人获救，并在下游缅甸一侧的水域发现一具尸体。

As of Thursday, the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture had dispatched 17 boats and 400 people for the rescue, along with Myanmar rescuers.

Microsoft on Friday announced it will permanently close its 83 Microsoft Store retail locations. It will instead focus on its online store at Microsoft.com, where customers can go for support, sales, training and more.
