China-Laos railway

The China-Laos Railway, a landmark project connecting Kunming in southwest China's Yunnan Province with the Laotian capital, Vientiane, will begin operations on Friday, the China State Railway Group said on Thursday.

中国国家铁路集团有限公司12月2日消息，连接昆明和万象的里程碑工程中老铁路即将于3日全线开通运营。

The 1,035-kilometer-long railway is a docking project between the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Laos' strategy to convert itself from a landlocked country to a land-linked hub.

中老铁路线路全长1035公里，是对接“一带一路”倡议和老挝国家发展战略的标志性项目，将改变老挝的“陆锁国”现状。

The railway fully adopts Chinese technical standards and consists of two sections. Construction of the section in Laos from the border town of Boten to Vientiane started in December 2016, and construction of the China section of the railway linking the city of Yuxi and the border town of Mohan started in December 2015.

铁路由两段组成，全线采用中国标准。玉溪至磨憨的中国段于2015年12月开工建设，磨丁至万象的老挝段于2016年12月开工建设。

With a maximum operating speed of 160 kilometers per hour, trains running on the route will take passengers from Kunming to Vientiane in about 10 hours, including customs clearance time.

中老铁路最高运营时速160公里，加上口岸通关时间，旅客从昆明至万象最快约10小时可达。

China-Laos railway operations are of great significance to bilateral economic, social and cultural exchanges, and are expected to accelerate the construction of the China-Laos Economic Corridor, according to a spokesperson for the China State Railway Group.

国铁集团有关负责人表示，中老铁路的开通运营，对密切中老两国经济社会和人文合作交流，加快建设中老经济走廊，具有十分重要的意义。

Olympic Truce Resolution

The 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Thursday adopted the Beijing Winter Olympic Truce Resolution drafted by China and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

当地时间12月2日，第76届联合国大会在纽约协商一致通过由中国和国际奥委会起草的奥林匹克休战决议。

The resolution was adopted by consensus and co-sponsored by 173 member states.

决议草案有173个共提国。

It calls for observing the tradition of Olympic Truce for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Games from seven days before the start of the Olympic Games on February 4, 2022 and seven days after the end of the Paralympic Games.

决议敦促各国在2022年北京冬奥会开幕前7日至北京冬残奥会闭幕后7日遵守奥林匹克休战。

White paper on China-Africa cooperation in new era

China's State Council Information Office on Friday issued a white paper detailing the country's cooperation with Africa in the new era.

国务院新闻办公室26日发表《新时代的中非合作》白皮书。

The white paper said shared past experiences and similar aims and goals have brought China and Africa close together.

白皮书称，相似的历史遭遇、共同的历史使命把中国和非洲紧紧联系在一起。

China and Africa will always be a community of shared future, it added.

中非从来就是命运共同体。

Developing solidarity and cooperation with African countries has been the cornerstone of China's foreign policy, as well as a firm and longstanding strategy, said the white paper.

发展同非洲国家的团结合作是中国对外政策的重要基石，也是中国长期坚定的战略选择。

Chinese President Xi Jinping put forward the principles of China's Africa policy -- sincerity, real results, amity and good faith, and pursuing the greater good and shared interests, charting the course for China's cooperation with Africa, and providing the fundamental guidelines, the white paper said.

白皮书指出，习近平主席提出真实亲诚对非政策理念和正确义利观，为新时代对非合作指明了前进方向、提供了根本遵循。

Canada Goose draws fire for return policies

Canadian luxury parka maker Canada Goose on Wednesday denied reports of a non-refundable policy for its products sold in the Chinese mainland market, which ignited public anger among Chinese consumers, saying that all products sold at Canada Goose's retail stores in the mainland are refundable in line with Chinese laws. However, confusion over its policy continues among some of its retail stores.
