中国第三艘航空母舰“福建舰”下水

China’s third aircraft carrier Fujian launched

China launched its third aircraft carrier, the Fujian, in Shanghai on Friday. The carrier, named after Fujian Province, was completely designed and built by China.

6月17日，我国第三艘航空母舰”福建舰”在上海下水。该舰以福建省名命名，由我国完全自主设计建造。

The new carrier was put into the water at a launch ceremony that started at about 11 a.m.

11时许，下水命名仪式开始，福建舰正式下水。

Approved by the the Central Military Commission, the Fujian was given the hull number 18.

经中央军委批准，福建舰舷号定为“18”。

It is China's first domestically-made carrier that uses catapults. With a full-load displacement of more than 80,000 tonnes, the carrier is equipped with electromagnetic catapults and arresting devices.

福建舰是我国自主设计建造的首艘弹射型航空母舰，配置电磁弹射和阻拦装置，满载排水量8万余吨。

The new carrier will conduct mooring tests and sea trials as scheduled.  

该舰下水后，将按计划开展系泊试验和航行试验。

China successfully launches three new satellites

China successfully launched three new remote sensing satellites from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province Thursday.

6月23日，我国在四川省西昌卫星发射中心成功发射三颗遥感卫星。

The satellites were launched as the second batch of the Yaogan-35 family at 10:22 a.m. (Beijing Time) by a Long March-2D carrier rocket and entered the planned orbit successfully.

北京时间10时22分，长征二号丁运载火箭成功将遥感三十五号02组卫星发射升空，卫星顺利进入预定轨道。

The satellites will be mainly used to conduct science experiments, land resource surveys, yield estimation of agricultural products and disaster prevention and reduction.

这组卫星主要用于科学试验、国土资源普查、农产品估产及防灾减灾等领域。

This launch marked the 424th mission for the Long March series carrier rockets.

这次任务是长征系列运载火箭的第424次飞行。

北京丰台站扩建投用

Beijing's Fengtai railway station reopens after expansion

Beijing Fengtai Railway Station, the Chinese capital's oldest, resumed services on June 20 after a four-year reconstruction.

6月20日，历经4年的改建，北京最早的火车站丰台站正式开通运营。　

The station will serve as the terminal for multiple arterial train lines in China, such as the Beijing-Guangzhou High-speed Railway and Beijing-Kowloon Railway.

丰台站今后将承担京广高铁、京九线等全国多条线路列车的始发终到作业。

Beijing Fengtai Railway Station was built in 1895 in southern Beijing's Fengtai District. It used to provide both passenger and freight services until its closure in 2010. Reconstruction of the station commenced in September 2018.

丰台站始建于1895年，位于北京丰台区，曾开办客货运输等业务。2010年，丰台站运输业务全部停办，2018年9月实施改扩建工程。

The reconstructed station has a gross floor area of nearly 400,000 square meters as well as 32 rail tracks and 32 platforms. It will be able to accommodate a maximum of 14,000 passengers per hour.

改建后的北京丰台站站房建筑面积约40万平方米，设有32条到达出发线，32个客运站台面，每小时最高可容纳14000人同时候车。

It is the country's first railway station featuring a double-deck structure that serves both high-speed and regular train services.

Earthquake in Afghanistan

The death toll from an earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan early Wednesday has surpassed 1,000, while more than 1,500 people were injured, a provincial official said, adding the number of casualties might rise further.

More than 1,000 people were killed and 1,500 injured as a result of the earthquake and subsequent landslide in two districts of Gayan and Barmal of Paktika.

The quake, with a magnitude of 5.9, jolted 44 km southwest of Khost.

Lyricist and songwriter Qiao Yu passes away

One of China's most renowned songwriters, Qiao Yu, died in Beijing on Monday. He was 95.

6月20日，著名词作家乔羽在京逝世，享年95岁。

He wrote over 1,000 songs, some of which are still performed today, gaining popularity among audiences young and old.
